Using Cellphones While Driving

Just like drunk driving, most states (and some countries) ban the use of cellular phones while driving for the hazard it poses that constitutes a terrible threat to the safety not just of the person behind-the-wheel but also to its passengers and innocent pedestrians.

Leaving Valuables in the Car

GM Volt At Paradise Chevrolet in Ventura

In a recent announcement made last Thursday, General Motors said it will rev up the roll-out of its newest plug-in hybrid, The Volt, to all 50 states by 2012 Chevy Volt at Paradise Chevrolet in Venturafourth quarter of this year. This is a bit advanced than the car maker’s previously announced target of nationwide distribution which was mid 2012. A reported “increase in the traffic onto dealers showroom floor,” according to Rick Scheidt, U.S. VP of Chevrolet Marketing, triggerd GM’s decision to accelerate its availability in the US market. The surge of consumer interest may be due to the numerous recognitions given to The Volt such as the “2011 Green Car of the Year” by the Green Car Journal. It is the very first electric-powered car to be given the award, which according to the premier magazine, “had been a long time coming,” citing that “other electric cars showed promise but lacked practicality.”

Moreover, the impressive features and specification of The Volt may also have fueled consumer interest. Chevy’s newest electric vehicle which uses battery power first then electricity generated by the on-board gas-powered generator has the following notable highlights:

  • 16.k Wh lithium-ion Battery with Rechargeable Energy Storage System
  • Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max Tires
  • Bose Premium Sound System
  • Bluetooth Wireless Technology
  • OnStar with Five-year Direction and Connection Plan
  • 7” Diagonal LCD Touch Screen Display

Currently, the 2001 Chevrolet Volt is on sale in California, Washington D.C., New York metropolitan, Texas, Connecticut & New Jersey, with the first cars initially available in the first four states. Michigan will follow this spring while Delaware, Washington, Florida, Oregon, Georgia, Virginia, Maryland, Hawaii, North & South Carolina, and Pennsylvania will follow in the roll-out around July to September. The rest of the states will have the Volt by October to December of 2011.
