Driving a brand new car home from the dealership is an exciting moment and one of the best things about owning a new car is the new car smell. Unfortunately, the new car smell usually only lasts a few months at best. Cars are magnets for spills and absorb smells quickly. Despite the best intentions of not eating or smoking in a car sometimes it’s unavoidable. Thankfully, there are some things you can do the keep that clean car smell for a long time.

Cleaning car interior is one of the best ways to make the clean car smell lastMake sure to vacuum and dust the interior of your car often. A hand held vacuum should do the job in getting into the little cracks and crevices of the car interior. Smells can get trapped in the car upholstery so be sure to clean up any spills as soon as it happens. Keep baby wipes in the car so you can wipe down spills immediately. Make sure when cleaning car interior not to forget to clean the windows with a glass cleaner. Also, be sure to keep a plastic shopping bag in the car to collect food wrappers and miscellaneous garbage. Remember to change the bag often.

Many people love to use air fresheners. These work very well in making your car smell fresh. Gone are the little pine trees that seemed to grace every car years ago. Today’s air fresheners come in a multitude of scents. While some people enjoy traditional air fresheners, you can also put whole spices such as cloves or anise seed in a little container in the car to freshen the air. Stores also sell reed diffusers that you can keep in a cup holder to keep your car smelling fresh.

Another trick is to place a fabric dryer sheet under each seat. As the car heats up it will release the fragrance. Replace the sheets every few months to keep the smell fresh. Even if you own an older car this should help in creating a clean car smell.

Using some of these tips should help you extend your new car smell for many years to come.
