Ventura Car Dealers: Ways You Could Be Wasting Gas

With high prices at the pump, more and more people are looking to save fuel. There are a lot of myths about saving gas, and some will even cause you to waste gas.
- The faster I go, the more gas I burn! While it is mostly true, it is more important to consider the RPM’s and what gear you are in.
How to use less gas: Most vehicles are more efficient at 2,000 RPM’s, but find what “zone” your car is best at.
- I’m going to draft the car in front of me!
While following a vehicle, the vehicle can cause a disturbance in the air, giving your car less resistance. Problem is, many people get too close behind the vehicle and have to use the brake in order to prevent from running up the vehicle’s tailpipe.
How to use less gas: An 18 wheeler is a large object, which will disturb the most air. Follow it at a safe distance.
- The cruise control helps in my quest of saving gas!
If you live in an area with a lot of hills, the cruise control is a common culprit, making you waste gas. As you go up a hill, the engine will rev very high. As if that wasn’t bad enough, you will probably be speeding once you get to the other side.
How to use less gas: Avoid using the cruise control unless you are on a flat interstate.
Wasting gas. Wasting gas. Wasting gas.
