Gray and Blue, ranked fifth and fourth; Silver and Black, third and second, thus giving the top spot to White as the most popular color preference for
vehicles in North America for two consecutive years. This year, a whopping 20% of car buyers in North America drove off in white vehicles. While other innovative color palettes have been continuously emerging to accommodate the thirst of consumers for something new, White still reigns as the universal preference. In fact, the newer paint colors featured more recently are observed to be mere altered tones of the top five color schemes given catchy names.
Europeans are biased to Black, Silver and Gray tones while Russians have a things for Silver. On the other hand, like North Americans, Indians show strong preference for White ad its altered tones. The least liked tints are Brown, Gold, Beige, Yellow and similar shades which make up 2-5% of market share.
What is so great about White that made it totally irresistible to a large percentage of U.S. drivers? Executive director and color consultant of the Pantone Color Institute, Leatrice Eiseman explains that, “Special pigments called ‘white effects’ can subtly alter a variety of shades. These nuances are more obvious in white. It catches the light easily. If you have a pigmented finish, it is going to be more obvious on a white car.” A lot of weight is given to color schemes in the automotive, as well as in the Collision Repair Industry, considering the big influence it has on a car shopper’s buying behavior. Car dealers in need of more sales may have to consider hoarding white paint.
